Strengthening Traffic Monitoring, JTT and the Police Take Action Against Vehicles Parked on the Surabaya–Gempol Toll Road
Surabaya (17/10) – As a preventive measure to ensure road user safety, PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT), together with the Highway Patrol Police (PJR), conducted enforcement against vehicles parked on the road shoulder of the Surabaya–Gempol Toll Road on Friday (16/10). This activity was carried out to ensure that the road shoulder is used according to its designated function and to minimize potential safety risks caused by vehicles stopping in areas not designated for parking.
The enforcement was carried out at several locations along the Surabaya–Gempol Toll Road through direct monitoring by officers on site. During the operation, officers inspected vehicles stopping or parking on the road shoulder without an emergency situation and took enforcement action in accordance with applicable regulations.
Senior Manager of Representative Office 3 of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, Agni Mayvinna, explained that vehicles parked on the road shoulder without an emergency reason can increase the risk of accidents, particularly for other vehicles traveling at high speeds.
“We want to ensure that every part of the toll road is used according to its designated function. Vehicles parked on the road shoulder without an emergency situation not only compromise safety space but also potentially endanger other road users. Therefore, monitoring and enforcement are important measures to prevent the risk of accidents,” Agni explained.
Furthermore, Agni stated that JTT consistently coordinates with the Police to improve compliance among freight vehicles on toll roads. These efforts are also in line with improving compliance with vehicle operational regulations, including vehicle dimensions and load limits, or Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL).
“This enforcement is not solely about imposing sanctions, but also serves as a reminder for drivers to be more responsible for safety throughout their journeys. We hope that awareness of regulatory compliance will continue to increase so that potential traffic disruptions can be minimized,” Agni added.
Meanwhile, Acting VP of Corporate Secretary and Legal of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, Dary Achmad Budi, emphasized the importance of journey planning, especially for freight vehicle drivers undertaking long-distance trips.
“We urge drivers to manage their travel schedules and rest at designated facilities when feeling fatigued. Avoid using the road shoulder as a place to stop or rest, and ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and comply with applicable dimension and load regulations. By prioritizing safety before starting a journey, we can help protect ourselves and other road users,” Dary stated.
JTT appreciates the Police's support in carrying out the enforcement and the cooperation of all road users in maintaining traffic order. JTT also apologizes for any inconvenience caused during the journey as a result of this activity.
To support safe and comfortable journeys, road users can monitor the latest traffic information through the Travoy application and contact the Jasa Marga One Call Center at 133 if assistance is needed on the toll road.
