Supporting Community Mobility, JTT Increases Capacity of the Surabaya–Gempol Toll Road
Surabaya (18/09) – As a form of commitment to supporting community mobility while maintaining and enhancing toll road service quality, PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT) is increasing the capacity of the Surabaya–Gempol (Surgem) Toll Road, specifically on the Kejapanan–Gempol Segment KM 769+450 to KM 772+650.
This work adds one lane in each direction, changing the lane configuration from 2 lanes to 3 lanes per direction (2×3 lanes). The widening utilizes the median (inner shoulder), ensuring that main lanes remain operational throughout construction to maintain user comfort.
Previously, JTT completed the widening of the Sidoarjo–Porong Segment KM 756 to KM 762 in 2022 (Lane A toward Porong) and 2023 (Lane B toward Sidoarjo). The widening proved to positively impact traffic flow, especially during long holiday periods. This success serves as the foundation for the preservation strategy now continued on the next segment.
Senior Manager Representative Office 3 PT JTT, Agus Susilo, explained, “In August 2025, the traffic load in the Kejapanan–Gempol segment reached a V/C ratio of 0.63 on Lane A and 0.64 on Lane B. These figures even increased to 0.8 during long holiday periods. With the added lane capacity, traffic flow will become more dispersed, allowing the public to enjoy smoother and more comfortable travel,” said Agus.
In addition to supporting daily travel, this widening is projected to support the significantly increasing mobility of East Java residents during holiday seasons, whether for tourism or family travel.
VP Corporate Secretary & Legal PT JTT, Ria Marlinda Paallo, added, “The Surabaya–Gempol Toll Road is a vital corridor connecting East Java’s economic and tourism centers. With this widening, we aim to ensure that the public truly experiences its benefits, whether for daily routines such as commuting or while enjoying holidays. Our mission is to provide smooth, safe, and comfortable travel for all road users,” Ria explained.
Ria also emphasized that throughout the construction period, JTT continues to prioritize road user convenience. “We carry out structured work-area arrangements to avoid disrupting main lanes, install clear signage, and strengthen coordination with PJR officers on-site. With these measures, we aim to ensure that the public feels safe and that traffic remains smooth despite the construction activities,” Ria added.
As part of its service commitment, JTT urges road users to remain cautious, obey signs, and follow directions from officers on-site.
